Constellation ("we", "us", "our") operates constellationmatch.com. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By creating an account, you agree to the practices described here.

1. What we collect

Account & profile information: name, age, gender, location, photos, and any bio details you choose to add.

Psychological assessment data: your responses to our compatibility questionnaire, based on established, validated instruments: the Big Five Inventory, the ECR-S attachment scale, and parenting-style research. This includes derived scores such as your attachment style, personality traits, and family-values orientation.

Usage data: messages you send to matches, reports you file, and basic technical data (device/browser type) needed to keep the service running securely.

2. How we use it

Your assessment data is used to calculate compatibility scores between you and other users. This calculation happens on our servers, not in your browser, so the scoring formula itself is never exposed to any user, including you.

We also use your data to operate core features (matching, messaging, requests), to keep the platform safe (reviewing reports, preventing abuse), and to improve the product over time.

3. What other users can see

Other users see your name, age, gender, location, photos, bio, your constellation "type" (a plain-language summary like "The Devotee"), and your compatibility percentage with them. Your raw questionnaire answers and detailed scores are never shown to other users. Only the final, summarized results are.

4. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored with a reputable cloud database provider, hosted in the ap-south-1 (Mumbai) region. We use industry-standard access controls (Row-Level Security) so that only you can access or edit your own profile and assessment answers, and other users can only see the limited, summarized information described above.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share data only with service providers who help us run the platform (such as our hosting and database provider), and only to the extent needed to provide the service. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.

When you share your location, your coordinates are sent to LocationIQ to determine your general area (e.g. your city or neighborhood). This is the only purpose that data is used for, and your precise coordinates are never shown to other users.

6. Your rights

You can review and update your profile and preferences at any time from "My Profile."

You can request a copy of the data we hold about you.

You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us; see below.

7. Age requirement

Constellation is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Accounts found to belong to minors will be removed.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we'll let you know before they take effect.

These Terms govern your use of Constellation ("we", "us", "our"), available at constellationmatch.com. By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the platform.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By signing up, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.

One account per person. Impersonating someone else, or creating a profile that isn't genuinely you, isn't allowed.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Harass, threaten, or abuse other users

Post false, misleading, or someone else's photos or information

Use the platform for commercial solicitation, spam, or scams

Attempt to access other users' data outside what the platform shows you

Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract our matching or compatibility-scoring methodology

4. Compatibility scores aren't guarantees

Our compatibility scores are generated from established psychological instruments and are meant to be a helpful, informative signal, not a promise or guarantee of relationship success, safety, or compatibility in practice. You're responsible for exercising your own judgment when interacting with anyone you meet through the platform.

5. Your safety

We do our best to review reports and remove accounts that violate these Terms, but we can't guarantee the conduct of other users. Please use standard precautions when meeting anyone in person, and report any concerning behavior using the in-app Report feature.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of the photos, messages, and other content you submit. By posting content, you grant us a limited license to display it within the platform as needed to operate the service (for example, showing your photo to potential matches).

7. Our intellectual property

The Constellation name, branding, "constellation" typology, and our compatibility-scoring methodology are our proprietary intellectual property. You may not copy, reverse-engineer, or commercially exploit them.

8. Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these Terms, misuse the platform, or pose a risk to other users.

9. Disclaimer & limitation of liability

The platform is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for interactions, relationships, or outcomes arising from your use of Constellation, including your interactions with other users.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India.

We may update these Terms as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we'll let you know before they take effect.

Personality traits reliably predict relationship satisfaction

Dyrenforth, Kashy, Donnellan & Lucas (2010) studied over 20,000 couples across Australia, the UK, and Germany. Higher agreeableness and conscientiousness, and lower neuroticism, in either partner were consistently linked to greater relationship satisfaction.

Multiple longitudinal studies since (Karney & Bradbury, 1995; Solomon & Jackson, 2014) confirm neuroticism as one of the most consistent predictors of relationship strain over time, which is part of why personality sits at the center of our assessment rather than being an afterthought.

Attachment style is one of the strongest known predictors of relationship health

The Experiences in Close Relationships scale is one of the most widely used and validated tools in relationship psychology. Research consistently shows it reliably predicts conflict-resolution patterns and emotional-support behaviors between partners.

A 2024 Indian study (sampled across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad) using the ECR-S specifically found attachment style meaningfully shaped relationship satisfaction among young Indian adults, directly relevant to who's actually using Constellation.

The patterns you grew up with shape how you'll build a family

Diana Baumrind's foundational research (1971) established that the parenting patterns people grow up with (authoritative, authoritarian, or permissive) shape how they later approach their own relationships and eventual parenting choices. This framework remains the standard in developmental psychology today.

This is why we ask about parenting and family values before matching, not after. Misalignment here tends to surface only once a relationship gets serious, exactly when it's hardest to address.

Compatibility is more nuanced than "opposites attract" or "similars attract"

The research is genuinely mixed on whether matching similar traits leads to better outcomes. Shiota & Levenson (2007) found that trait-by-trait similarity alone doesn't reliably predict satisfaction, and can even correlate negatively in long-term couples.

What does show a real correlation is congruence across a person's overall profile (Gonzaga, Campos & Bradbury, 2007), not any single trait in isolation. That's exactly why our compatibility score weighs attachment, personality, parenting values, and family dynamics together, rather than reducing you to one number on one scale.
